“How About Sunglasses?” Polarized Sunglasses

If you are just new to the fly fishing scene, you may not know how important your sunglasses can be. And when I say sunglasses, I am only talking about one kind – polarized sunglasses!

Polarized sunglasses have been popular for years with boaters and fishermen who need to reduce reflected glare from the water surrounding them and here is why. Light reflected from surfaces such as smooth water is generally horizontally polarized. This means that, instead of light being scattered in all directions in more usual ways, reflected light generally travels in a more horizontally oriented direction. This creates an annoying and sometimes dangerous intensity of light that we experience as glare.

Polarized lenses contain a special filter that blocks this type of intense reflected light, reducing glare and making vision more clear. They cut the glare so that your eyes are comfortable and you can see the fish in the water better.

Already wear glasses and do not know how you would wear polarized sunglasses? There are several routes you can take. One is to get a pair that is a “fit-over” – just what it means. It fits over your current glasses. I have tried this in the past and found that it takes some getting used to, but it does work.

The alternative is to get a prescription pair of polarized sunglasses, which optometrists recommend in all conditions. Please visit the CWO website for a large selection of Polarized Fishing Sunglasses. ~ Kristen
